DHL unveils 777 passenger-to-freighter conversion at Farnborough International Airshow
London, July 24, 2026: DHL has unveiled its 777 passenger-to-freighter conversion, enhancing long-haul cargo capability in the DHL global network. The pioneering aircraft is on display at the Farnborough International Airshow this week, with four aircraft planned to enter service this year, and a total commitment of thirteen in coming years.
The introduction of the Boeing 777-200 Long-Range Mammoth Freighter into the DHL fleet follows an extensive international engineering and conversion programme, representing a significant capital investment in sustainable air cargo infrastructure. By converting existing passenger airframes rather than purchasing newly manufactured aircraft, DHL reduces the raw material use and structural manufacturing footprint typically associated with fleet expansion. The transformation of a former passenger plane is a prime example of circular economy principles in aviation.

The aircraft displayed at Farnborough has been converted in Manchester as part of Mammoth Freighter’s wider B777-200LR conversion programme. The project, which brought together aerospace expertise from across the globe, includes extensive structural modifications required for freighter operations, including the installation of a large main-deck cargo door and advanced cargo handling systems.
Retaining the original airframes and engines, the aircraft enhances operational flexibility through provision of long-range, high load capacity, Intercontinental services. Adding more aircraft capable of heavy loads reduces the number of total flights helping to reduce fuel burn, emissions, and noise pollution around airports and surrounding communities.
