Malaysia Aviation Group signs up for GoGreen Plus service to reduce shipment emissions
Through GoGreen Plus, MAG is investing in sustainable aviation fuel to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from cross-border shipments fulfilled by DHL Express.
We signed an agreement with Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), the parent company of Malaysia Airlines, for the use of our GoGreen Plus service.
The partnership enables MAG to reduce greenhouse gas emissions linked to its time-definite international shipments through investment in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) used within our air network. It is projected to reduce lifecycle carbon dioxide equivalent (CO₂e) emissions by approximately 300 tonnes in 2026, compared with the previous year’s baseline.
“SAF is currently one of the most developed lower-carbon solution for reducing lifecycle emissions from long-distance air transport,” said Julian Neo, our Managing Director for Malaysia and Brunei. “It is therefore encouraging to see a national carrier of MAG’s stature amplify its position in the lower-carbon aviation fuel ecosystem and help galvanise wider sectoral adoption. This motivates our ongoing efforts to support the sustainability goals of businesses through carbon-reduced logistics.”
How GoGreen Plus supports emissions reduction
Launched in 2023, our GoGreen Plus service allows customers to use SAF to lower indirect Scope 3 emissions in their value chains arising from upstream and downstream transportation and distribution.
The service is made possible by SAF contracts we have signed with partners including BP, Neste, Cosmo Energy and Cathay Group.
SAF is made from sustainable feedstocks, such as used cooking oil and other residues. It can cut lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions by around 80 per cent compared with conventional jet fuel.
GoGreen Plus uses a ‘book & claim’ approach. This allows us to replace fossil fuels with sustainable fuels within our network and attribute the associated lifecycle emissions reductions to participating customers, including MAG.
These reductions can be attributed even when a customer’s shipments are not physically transported using the assets that consume those fuels.
Supporting MAG’s international logistics activities
MAG’s GoGreen Plus subscription applies to inbound and outbound air freight fulfilled by DHL Express across the United States, Europe and Asia Pacific trade lanes.
The initiative supports MAG’s corporate sustainability agenda by addressing lifecycle emissions associated with its own international logistics activities. It complements the Group’s broader efforts to advance SAF adoption across passenger and cargo operations.
As an aviation group with both airline and air cargo businesses, MAG continues to explore scalable SAF pathways across business-to-consumer (B2C) and business-to-business (B2B) segments.
Building on MAG’s SAF adoption
Since 2021, MAG has operated SAF-powered flights across passenger and cargo services, building operational readiness and strengthening infrastructure integration across its network. These foundations support the Group’s efforts to scale SAF deployment for lower-carbon air freight solutions for corporate customers.
In 2025, MAG conducted a two-week SAF uplift on the Kuala Lumpur–London route to assess Malaysia’s local supply chain readiness at KLIA. This laid groundwork for future SAF adoption.
The Group also continues to collaborate with industry partners and local feedstock suppliers to explore pathways for domestic SAF production. These efforts support the development of commercially viable SAF solutions for passenger, corporate travel and cargo operations.
“SAF remains one of the most critical levers in aviation’s transition to net-zero by 2050. As a hard-to-abate sector, scaling SAF requires coordinated action across the value chain—from policy to production to infrastructure and demand creation,” said Philip See, Group Chief Sustainability Officer of MAG. “Our collaboration with DHL Express reflects the growing momentum for market-based solutions such as book-and-claim mechanisms that can accelerate SAF uptake beyond regulatory mandates. We are committed to playing our part—not only through operational adoption across our network, but by supporting ecosystem development in Malaysia and the region to enable a progress toward a credible and scalable pathway for lower-carbon aviation industry.”
