Tips for sending Mooncake overseas

Australia	✔	Depends on destination customs	✖	✖	✔	For personal shipments of mooncakes weighing less than 10 kg and not containing eggs, meat, fresh pomelo, star fruit, taro (or other fresh fruit), the sender only needs to provide a manufacturer's declaration. If the mooncake is more than 10 kg, it is considered for commercial import purposes, the receiver needs to provide an import license from the Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry. If the mooncake is over 10 kg and contains eggs, an import license and manufacturer's declaration are required. If customers fail to provide the manufacturer's declaration, ensure that the mooncakes are commercially packaged, and the full ingredient list is clearly displayed. The shipment will be inspected and cleared on-site by Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Officer, and it may take 5-7 business days to complete. *The manufacturer's declaration form must be completed by the manufacturing company. (Company stamp is not compulsory, it has to be signed and named )

Taiwan	✔	✔	✔	Depends on destination customs	✔	For personal consumption, shipments with a total weight exceeding 6 kg or a declared value over USD 1,000 require import approval from the Food and Drug Administration of the Ministry of Health and Welfare. Shipments for commercial purpose require import approval from the Food and Drug Administration of the Ministry of Health and Welfare. Mooncakes containing meat ingredients are subject to import approval from the Food and Drug Administration of the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Animal and Plant Epidemic Prevention and Quarantine Bureau of the Agricultural Commission. Products originating from China is prohibited. Non-compliance with import regulations or submission of false declarations will result in fines ranging from TWD 50,000 to TWD 1 million.

United States of America	✔	✖	✔	✖	✔	Mooncake contains meat and meat products are prohibited. Individuals shipping goods with a declared value of less than USD 800 are only required to provide an invoice for customs clearance. Submission to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is generally not required. However, U.S. Customs or the FDA may randomly select shipments for inspection. Commercial shipments must be registered with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and require FDA Prior Notice, regardless of the shipment value. These shipments may also be randomly selected for inspection by U.S. Customs or the FDA. Additionally, all commercial imports must include the Consignee’s Tax ID number. If the shipment value exceeds USD 5,000, a Power of Attorney (POA) is required for customs clearance.

Remarks

DHL does not accept any perishables food items, i.e. Snowy Mooncake.
