E-commerce platforms are the backbone of today's online stores. On the market you can find a great many programs that allow you to create a place on the web for your business, but choosing the right one can cause some difficulties. Which e-commerce platforms are particularly popular in our country and how can they be used to create online stores?

Which e-commerce platform for an online store?

The online store platform must not be chosen too hastily. After all, the stability of the entire site, the quality of the presentation of the store's offerings and the consumer's browsing experience will largely depend on it. The selection of an e-commerce platform should be preceded by a thorough analysis of the needs of the business. For example, evaluate the size of the online store (small, medium or large), the company's budget, the requirements for the number of available functionalities or the time in which the work on developing the site should be completed. In the end, the best store platform is the one that best meets the needs of a particular online store.

The sales platforms available on the market can be divided according to the model in which they operate. The most popular are open-source platforms, i.e. open-source programs that are free at any stage of use. They offer great opportunities for modifying an online store, but creating one in them can be time-consuming if you don't use the available designed templates.

Slightly less popular is the SaaS model. (Software as a Service). These are subscription platforms, they allow you to quickly implement an online store, but require regular payments. Dedicated platforms are another option. They are created from scratch and offer virtually unlimited design possibilities. The disadvantages of dedicated platforms are mainly their price, long implementation time and payments associated with the need for continuous system development.

It is valued primarily for its relatively high ease of use and the ability to enrich the functionality in the online store with numerous useful modules. PrestaShop also offers access to official support, but this service comes at an additional cost.

Although WooCommerce is a dedicated e-commerce plugin for the WordPress content management system, it can be categorized as an e-commerce platform. Completely free use, extremely powerful features and the ability to perform a wide variety of integrations have made this software the most popular e-commerce platform in the world. WooCommerce offers nearly 60,000 fully free plugins that allow you to extend your online stores with interesting functionalities. This platform will be of particular interest to small and medium-sized online retailers, since at a certain stage of store development, enriching the site with new components can cause performance problems.

Installing an environment and modifying an online store with Magento is a bit more difficult than with other most popular e-commerce platforms, but it offers a great deal of possibilities. With this system you can create stores with advanced functionality, so it is recommended for those of the entrepreneurs who are not satisfied with the basic solutions. A great advantage of Magento is its rich suite of built-in tools, both for direct modification and those providing various types of analytical data. These and other solutions help implement an SEO strategy for an online store.
