To ship luggage from Brazil with DHL Express, you take your suitcases or boxes to a DHL store in Brazil, the team packs them, prepares the paperwork and shows you the price before you confirm. Your luggage travels door to door, fully tracked, and arrives at the destination address without a stop at the airport baggage carousel. With the Viaje Leve programme, the same applies to destinations within Brazil.

Anyone moving abroad to study, work or live runs into the same problem: a life does not fit into an airline baggage allowance. Winter clothes, books, work equipment, the guitar you cannot leave behind. Sending part of it ahead, or after you, makes the trip lighter and your first day at the destination much simpler.

What is DHL's Viaje Leve programme?

Viaje Leve ("travel light") is the DHL programme in Brazil for shipping suitcases and luggage with personal items, delivered straight to the destination address, in Brazil or abroad. You avoid queues, excess weight and carrying suitcases during your trip. Just take your luggage to a participating DHL store and DHL handles the whole shipping and tracking process. • Luggage delivered to the destination address
  • More comfort: travel without carrying suitcases
  • Full tracking of your luggage
  • Specialist service at DHL stores

Exclusive offer at DHL stores: the coupon BAGAGEMDHL gives 20% off your luggage shipment. Give the code at the counter of a participating store when you ship. See the current DHL discount coupons.

Why ship your luggage instead of checking it in?

Because the luggage travels on its own and arrives at the recipient's door. You fly with the essentials only, without dragging heavy bags through the airport or waiting at the carousel. According to DHL, luggage sent with an international express service is delivered directly to your destination and can be tracked all the way. In practice, three things change for anyone on the move:

  • You pick the timing: ship before you fly, so the luggage lands with you or shortly after.
  • You follow every step with the tracking number, from the counter to delivery.
  • You no longer depend on your ticket's weight and piece limits to take what you need.

What can go as luggage, and what cannot?

Clothes, shoes, books, personal belongings, musical instruments and items for personal use can travel as luggage. DHL classifies luggage as personal effects: goods that belong to and are used by the traveller. Each country has its own rules for this category, which is why an accurate description of the contents matters at customs. Source: Discover DHL, November 2024.

Some items are not accepted in any DHL Express shipment, under the DHL Express Terms and Conditions of Carriage. The list includes:

  • cash, precious or semi-precious stones and bullion of any precious metal;
  • weapons, ammunition, explosives and replica weapons;
  • live animals and counterfeit goods;
  • items classified as dangerous goods under air transport rules;
  • anything DHL cannot carry safely or legally.

Which service fits your luggage?

It depends on the weight. At DHL stores in Brazil, Express Easy is the walk-in service: it uses DHL-supplied packaging, takes a single piece of up to 25 kg and can be paid in cash or by credit card. For larger volumes, Express Worldwide takes pieces of up to 70 kg. Source: DHL Express Brazil, Delivery Services page, September 2026.

The table sums up the published export limits:

Service

Max weight per piece

Max shipment weight

Packaging

Delivery

Express Easy

25 kg

Single piece of 25 kg

Supplied by DHL (500 g to 25 kg)

By end of day

Express Worldwide

70 kg

3,000 kg

Pallet up to 120 x 80 x 80 cm

By end of day

Both services deliver on the next possible day for the route, and availability depends on origin and destination. If your luggage must arrive at a specific time, there is also time definite delivery, by 9:00, 10:30 or noon.

How should you pack suitcases and boxes for the trip?

DHL itself recommends protecting every item and choosing the packaging by weight. For pieces of 10 kg or more, use a double or triple-walled cardboard box that will not cave in. Between 30 kg and 70 kg, a pallet, crate or made-to-measure box is the right choice. Source: Discover DHL, November 2024.

A few simple rules save a lot of trouble:

  1. Wrap fragile items one by one and fill every empty space in the box.
  2. Put heavy items at the bottom and light ones on top.
  3. Keep musical instruments in hard cases, with padding in the gaps.
  4. Seal liquids in leak-proof bags so pressure changes do not cause spills.
  5. Label every piece with the recipient's full details.

Would rather not do it yourself? At the stores, packaging is free and the team packs for you. More tips in the guide on how to pack a parcel.

Which documents do you need to ship luggage from Brazil?

For courier exports, DHL Express asks for the waybill, a commercial or pro forma invoice listing each item and its value and, for senders who do not issue a Brazilian invoice (nota fiscal), a substitute declaration. This courier mode covers shipments of up to US$ 1,000 in declared value; above that, the export becomes formal. Source: MyDHL+ Brazil, Service Type Description, September 2026.

It sounds like a lot, but you do not fill anything in yourself. At a DHL store, the team prepares the paperwork from what you tell them: what is inside, how many items and what they are worth. To understand the key document, read the guide to the commercial invoice.

How do you protect your luggage in transit?

By adding Shipment Value Protection, the optional DHL Express cover. Without it, DHL's liability for air transport is limited to roughly US$ 35 per kilogram. With it, compensation is based on the value you declared. For international shipments, it costs US$ 16 or 1% of the protected value, whichever is higher. For luggage with electronics, instruments or items of sentimental value, it is worth it. The details are in the guide to shipment insurance in Brazil.

How do you ship luggage from a DHL store in Brazil?

The simplest route is to walk into a store with your suitcases or boxes. There are 46 DHL stores across 13 Brazilian states, serving individuals and businesses, with no account and no sign-up needed.

  1. Find the nearest DHL store or message the team on WhatsApp first.
  2. Bring the luggage and the recipient's full details.
  3. The team packs, prepares the paperwork and shows you the price and transit time.
  4. You confirm, pay and get your tracking number.

Before you go, check whether a special offer is running on the DHL discount codes page, or simply ask at the counter.
